The maintenance of the skin homeostasis relies on a finely tuned equilibrium of well-regulated interactions between the different layers of the skin with their cellular and subcellular compartments. In epidermis, the keratinocytes play a key role in the barrier function, a vital protection for the entire body. Keratinocytes also communicate with other cutaneous cell types and structures to ensure the functionality of the organ. In this project, we focus on epidermal keratinocyte as a sensor of complex interactions with other skin cell types and clarify more precisely their mutual interactions with dermal fibroblasts, skin microvessels and nerve fiber endings.
