Identifying individuals at risk for skin weakness is an important issue to propose strategies for skin protection and fits into the societal challenges defined by the French government and the European Union. We are tackling this question through three clinical situations studied in vivo or in vitro: 1) evaluation of the risk of pressure ulcers in paraplegic individuals and diabetic foot ulcer in patients, 2) identification of people at risk for cutaneous side effects of radiotherapy, and 3) skin fragility as a marker of kidney damage in type 1 diabetic patients. The identification of new markers of skin fragility in these diverse contexts allows for the development of innovative strategies to counteract the cutaneous tissue weakening.
