Skin function and dynamics

Introduction

The “Skin function and Dynamics” team, headed by Dr. Dominique Sigaudo-Roussel, aims at better characterizing skin changes in terms of dynamics and functionality when skin homeostasis is jeopardized by deleterious signals. Our project is focusing on the integrated vision of the skin tissue in both the analysis of the molecular mechanisms controlling the architecture of the matrix organization and the study of the functional consequences of any change in its environment. As a target organ, the skin is a good indicator of exposure to stressors, allowing to assess its fragility and to infer new therapeutic approaches. Our team brings together biochemists, cell biologists, physiologists and physicians leading to integrated skin research from fundamental research to the clinic, through the molecular basis of genetic diseases, the development of tissue engineering strategies and the involvement into clinical trials as well. We aim to join our interests and expertise via a multidisciplinary approach (skin vasomotricity, integrated physiology, cell biology, epigenetic regulations) and the use of a diversity of models (primary cells, 3D skin, ex vivo, in vivo, clinical studies). In particular, we are addressing four main scientific questions through different axis of research.
